UVRI Director meets and urges staff

The Director of Uganda Virus Research Institute Prof Pontiano Kaleebu has urged staff to deliver quality services and promote good science.

Speaking at the institute’s canteen, Prof Pontiano said as staff aspire to be future leaders, they should devote sufficient time to gain relevant skills that will make them competitive but also experts in their respective field.

He said the institute is doing a lot of ‘behind the scene’ science and research projects that are greatly contributing to government’s efforts to address various diseases.

He noted that significant studies have been carried out on HIV, hepatitis, polio, measles and other non-communicable diseases to inform policy and development of better strategies to eradicate some of the diseases.

He added that efforts are underway to promote activities that will increase the institute’s visibility and attract more partners and funding to support studies in emerging and re-emerging diseases
