Namibian Ministry of Health Team Visits Uganda Virus Research Institute on capacity building mission

A team from the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Namibia has visited the Uganda Virus Research Institute to acquaint themselves with operations of the institute. The team led by Mr Puumue Katijiuanjo, the Director of Health Information and Research was here on 22nd March 2017 to learn how to develop capacity for laboratory research, vector surveillance and research collaborations.
The team was briefed by Dr Christine Watera the Principal Research Officer UVRI, on the different research on viral infectious diseases, effective surveillance for vector-borne viral infection and research collaborations.
The Namibian team informed the UVRI team that the Namibian government is in the process of setting up a public health institute, which will carry out similar operations as that of Uganda Virus Research Institute.
Mr Puumue called for research collaborations between the two institutes when need arises and appreciated the human and infrastructural capacity that UVRI is putting in place to address the current challenges of infectious diseases.
