UVRI Deputy Director presents findings of the FMD surveillance study taking place in the Central, Eastern and Western Uganda.

Uganda Virus Research Institute Deputy Director Dr Julius Lutwama presents findings of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) surveillance study in some districts in the Central, Eastern and Western Uganda between 2013 and 2017.

Presenting the findings in a meeting held at the UVRI/MUII conference hall, Dr Lutwama called for greater efforts to fight the disease through improved vaccinology, diagnostics and other control measures.

The meeting also discussed strategies to address challenges such as identification of primary endemic areas, non-disclosure of infected animals, animal husbandry practices, and animal movement.

The meeting drew participants from the United States Department of Veterinary Microbiology and DITRA, as well as participants from Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), MUK, NADEC among others.
