All 1,126 samples tested for COVID-19 at Uganda Virus Research Institute on 18th April 2020 are Negative
837 samples were from truck drivers at border points while 289 samples were from individuals under institutional quarantine and contacts to confirmed cases.
The number of confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Uganda stand at 55. The total number of coronavirus recoveries is 22.
Earlier, while giving a comprehensive update on COVID-19 response, the Minister of Health Dr Ruth Aceng said that two (2) mobile PCR laboratories have been procured and will be received in the country on Sunday, 19th April 2020.
The laboratories will be officially commissioned by the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and they will be deployed at the congested border points to quicken testing and return of results.
Dr Aceng also said more than 2,800 samples from truck drivers have been screened and tested, of these, 1 Ugandan truck driver tested positive, while the other two were from Kenya and Tanzania respectively. Screening and testing truck drivers is ongoing across the 53 Points of Entry.
Dr Aceng also disclosed that all staff in Entebbe Grade B Hospital who have been taking care of the patients have been screened for COVID-19 and all tested NEGATIVE. A repeat test will be done after 2 weeks.
A total of a total of 9,975 tests have been done, of these 9,920 are negative while 55 were confirmed positive.
