One (1) new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Uganda Virus Research Institute out of the 625 samples tested on the 14th April 2020.
Of the samples tested, 372 samples were from truck drivers at border pints of entry while 253 samples were from contacts in the community.
The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Uganda is 55.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, the new case is a 38-year-old male Ugandan truck driver of Tororo district in Eastern Uganda, who arrived from Kenya on the 12th April 2020.
He was tested at Malaba border point of entry as part of the routine test for truck drivers. He did not have signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
The Director General of Health Services Dr Henry Mwebesa has also disclosed that a 27-year-old male Kenyan truck driver was found positive of COVID-19 among the 372 truck drivers tested. His sample was also collected at Malaba border point and arrangements have been made to return him to Kenya for treatment close to his family.
In another development, one (1) patient who was admitted in Adjumani hospital due to coronavirus disease has been discharged after testing negative twice for COVID-19. The total number of those discharged is now Eight (8).
